HERizon Africa proudly celebrates the appointment of Dr. Kalkidan Esayas, PhD as a Global Advisory Council Member. This appointment underscores HERizon Africa’s commitment to mobilizing visionary leaders who are shaping the future of gender equity, women-led innovation, and sustainable development across the continent.
With professionalism and credibility at the heart of the HERizon’s mandate, the Global Advisory role is entrusted to women leaders whose accomplishments stand firmly on the highest professional standards. Among these distinguished voices is Dr. Kalkidan Esayas, one of the continent’s most compelling and influential thought leaders. She brings an exceptional blend of leadership, empathy, and experience to our pan-African movement. As part of the Global Advisory Council, Dr. Kalkidan will provide strategic guidance, support program development, and strengthen multi-sector collaborations that elevate women as architects of Africa’s transformation.

Dr. Kalkidan Esayas Woldesenbet is an Ecologist and Conservation Biologist who holds a PhD and MSc in Ecological Sciences from the College of Natural Sciences at Addis Ababa University. She also holds an MA in Project Management from the School of Commerce, Addis Ababa University.
She has served in both governmental and non-governmental institutions, leading and managing projects centered on Natural Resource Management, Food Security and Livelihoods, Climate Change, Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), Gender, and Economic Empowerment and Development. Over the years, she has held several key roles, including Country Director, Project Manager, Policy Advisor, National Chapter Advisor, Lecturer, and Researcher. She currently works as a consultant and master trainer with Kal Consulting.
Dr. Kalkidan is the recipient of several prestigious accolades, including the 2020 International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) from the U.S. Department of State, the 2023 Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) at the Rausser College of Natural Resources, University of California, Berkeley, and the 2023 Women and Enterprise Development Program under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) initiative in India. She has also received multiple awards for her volunteerism and community training contributions. Dr. Kalkidan is a founding member and board member of the U.S. Exchange Alumni Association of Ethiopia.
