Dr. Hayford M. Ayerakwa

Development Economist / Senior Lecturer, University of Ghana

Dr. Hayford Mensah Ayerakwa is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the University of Ghana Learning Centre in Cape Coast under the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE).

Hayford holds a Ph.D. in Social and Economic Geography from Lund University (Sweden), an MPhil in Agricultural Economics, and a BA in Economics from the University of Ghana.

Dr. Ayerakwa is also a development economics research practitioner with over 15 years of exposure to, and experience in project conceptualization, design/methodology, and econometric modelling and analysis in the agriculture and education sectors. He specializes in the application of digital and emerging technologies for enterprise and agrifood systems efficiency, as well as education welfare outcomes.

He has consulted extensively for both local and international organizations with a wealth of experience in designing and delivering high-quality quantitative and qualitative research on time and within budget.

Dr. Ayerakwa recently consulted for the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mott McDonald Limited, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), National Teaching Council, GIZ, Mondelez International, Development Gateway, and Harvard University among others.

Over the period 2010 to 2013, Dr. Ayerakwa was a research officer in charge of recruitment, training, monitoring, and analysis of field data with a team of researchers based at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana that consulted for the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) and the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA); Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, UNICEF and the World Bank on several projects. He also provided research assistance to different researchers at ISSER from 2006 to 2010 on different projects.
